3 Methods For Better Film Study Grades

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

Film study is far more detailed than most people would give it credit for. After all, the movies we enjoy spending time on encompass several different topics, ranging from casts to angles for shooting. These are just a few examples that students should recognize. However, in order for as much information to be obtained en route to the most desirable degree, here is a list of 3 tips that should not be overlooked by any means.

At the onset, you should take the basics of a film into account. This includes a number of points, including - but not limited to - production titles, running times, cast members, and what have you. If you're going to invest yourself in film study, wouldn't it make sense to keep these attributes in mind? For those who are dedicated to this craft, it's important for this act to be fulfilled before anything else is done.

Those who have spent ample time in film study class will tell you that a lack of bias is all but required. You have to consider that everyone has their own preferences in movies, meaning that someone who loves action films may not exactly be partial to silent films. However, if the latter is assigned in class, that individual has to approach the assignment with an open mind. When this happens, it's so much easier to succeed in a film study course.

Finally, as important as it to watch a film in general, it's even more worthwhile to focus on the soundtrack. There is something about sound that complements a film, whether it's the screeching that's associated with "Psycho," the more dynamic feeling of "The Lord of the Rings," or what have you. Soundtracks offer much to their movies, so evaluate them as their own pieces as well. This is yet another feature you'll be likely to focus on in film study class.

As you can see, there are many reasons why film study stands out. To me, it's one of the better classes that artistic students can take up, as it will help them better understand what movies are all about. As much enjoyment as we get out of sitting down and watching movies, I believe that it's just as important to look into how they are made to begin with. Film study will not only cover such an aspect but do so with tremendous detail in place as well.
