Opening A Photo Art Gallery Wichita To Stimulate Local Economy

By Karyn Shields

Americans in the job market are largely frustrated at the presence of low-paying part-time work as their only option. Even so, they will tread high water to get these jobs in order to support their families and make a stab at establishing a decent standard of living. Even jobs that used to be held by kids in school are needed by adults, and the retirees and housewives are encouraged to consider opening a photo art gallery Wichita, KS.

Residents of the smaller, more rural towns in Kansas feel the sting even more strongly, as small communities boasting few opportunities in a growing economy can become totally stagnant when there is an economic slump. For this reason people often notice that small towns have fewer high school students in the work force. Even the lowest-paying entry level type work is sought after by working parents and retirees.

With those who have already retired, mentally challenged adults and bored housewives taking jobs, it leaves many Americans in the lurch. The perspective is that such individuals are already being provided for while others face homelessness. Whether one is supported by a spouse or parent, or Social Security provides an income, resentment festers in the hearts of Americans who are not eligible for any assistance.

Rather than being part of the problem, Americans can become the solution by opening their own galleries for the purpose of exhibition and sales of artistic works. Local artisans find an outlet for their vision, and local economies get a boost when these galleries attract out of town visitors. Running such a business allows retirees and/or housewives to set their own schedules and be their own boss.

Contrary to common belief, galleries are not always a money pit. While income may be sporadic, it can be substantial depending on the works being exhibited and the spending power of those who visit the establishment. Considerable sums of money can be made on a single work of art if there is a buyer who believes in the work that artist does.

Naturally such entrepreneurs will desire to keep their overhead low since they are not anticipating regular sales that show profit. These businesses often just break even most of the time, and can actually lose money. However, when one runs a business for the shear pleasure of it, losing money simply means they can take additional deductions on their taxes for that year.

Not only can this create a little revenue here and there for the person who runs the business, but this also generates income for the artists themselves. It gets their work out into the public eye, and they have the opportunity to make a real name for themselves. In addition, these are almost always community-minded businesses, and workshops to learn more about artists, their works, or how to create such masterpieces for ones-self are often part of the business model.

The fact is, retirees and bored housewives can do more good by opening galleries that they manage and control rather than working for larger corporations. These small businesses stimulate local economies and provide opportunities for artists and their fans. Those jobs providing health insurance, paid vacation, family-friendly schedules, and profit shares can be left to the young professionals who most need them.
