How A Watercolorist Paints His Picture

By Mia Kent

The world of painting sees many different types as there are a lot of different variations of painting. As a watercolorist, one will be using special types of pant that mixes together with water in order to create a mix that can make really beautiful portraits. Just to give an idea to people on what this type of painter does, here are some of the things he would do.

As a painter in this field, one will be making use of water all the time. He will have to learn the art of using the right amount of water as well as the right amount of paint in order to be able to create the right type of mix. So he must always have a continuous supply of water beside him while he paints.

Now in order to officially start the process, one will begin by getting out his canvas, and wetting the paper with some water. The entire paper in the canvas will be soaked with water in order for the painting to have the fading effect that is unique to watercolor paintings. One has to get a big brush and use it to wet the entire paper.

Once one has done this, then the next step would be to paint the background of the painting. The first thing to do here would be to get some paint and start mixing it will a significant amount of water. If one would paint with this type of mix, then there will be a fading effect that is produced.

Once the background has already been painted, then the thing to do here would be to allow the canvas to dry up a little bit. Now if he would paint over a wet canvas, there is a big possibility that the newly added paint will get too wet and start running. Other than that, the background will look better once it dries.

When the background has already dried, then one may now create the actual portrait over the background. Now for this step, it is very important to put less water on the paint when doing this process. In order to create a nice picture, one must first dip his brush into the paint and dip it a little bit in the water then start painting the picture.

An option in this step would be to experiment with different color shades and color combinations in order to create a more dynamic effect on the painting.. In order to create a light shade, then he has to make use of a lot water. The opposite is done for darker colors where in one has to use a little bit of water only.

So if one is interested in becoming a watercolorist, then these are some of the basic techniques that he will be learning along the way. In fact, these steps are actually the most basic and every artist in this field will have to go through them. Of course there are more advanced techniques that will be learned later on.
