The Famous Female Swedish Singer

By Irma Farrell

Like any other country, Sweden has produced a multitude of artists that are famous throughout their country and even throughout the entire world. What the female Swedish female singer brings to the table is a certain skill set that has the capability to transcend local boundaries and reach out to anyone that is willing to listen. To prove this point, a few examples may be needed.

One of these women is Theresa Andersson. Andersson was born in the year 1972 in Gotland, Sweden and is a singer, a songwriter as well as a multi instrumentalist. She once posted a do it yourself video for Na Na Na, which is one of her songs, and it has since become quite popular on YouTube with more than a million views.

Another example is Miss Li. Li, whose real name is Linda Carlsson, is a famous musician whose single was featured on a series on Showtime called Weeds. Other than that, there was the utilization of Bourgeois Shangri La, another one her of songs, in a commercial for the iPod Nano commercial.

Birgit Carp, known as Git Gay during her heyday, was a multi talented director, actress and vocalist. She was born Birgit Agda Holmberg in Karlshamn, Sweden in 1921. Her musical education began in earnest when her parents, wanting her to become a concerto pianist, had enrolled her to the Music Conservatory in Malmo.

Eventually, Sigge Holmberg, a director, was able to convince her to be a prima donna in his summer revue. This led to her performance at Stockholm the following year at the Grona Lund. It was yet another revue this time, it was Klart Gronan. Her successful ways continued towards the end of the century and was completed by a transition into senior TV presenting. She passed away in 2007, eleven days before her eighty sixth birthday.

Another is Clara Hagman, who happens to be a member of Ace of Base, a pop band. At the age of eighteen, she was recruited into her current band as replacement stemming from the recent departures of a founding member. A new album from this line up was released in September of 2010.

One of the most highly thought of singers of the nineteenth century was Johanna Maria Lind, who better known by her alias Jenny Lind was a Swedish opera singer. Her talents earned her the nickname Swedish Nightingale. Her amazing performance in Der Freischutz made her famous, although vocal damage a few years later nearly ruined her career.

Lastly, for now, there is Annette Ingegerd Olsson, known better as Anette Olzon. She is a lead vocalist in the metal band Nightwish, which is actually Finnish in origin. Prior to that, she worked with Alyson Avenue, yet another band.

There are many more examples to cite from a very diverse pool of talent. The definition of a Swedish female singer is one that is changing with the times. With each new innovation and achievement, they, as a whole, elevate themselves just a little bit higher than they were before. They are a point of pride for their nation, and their talents will see to it that the world will see things that way as well.
