'Issaq' 2013 released on 26 July 2013. Manish Tiwary is the first filmmaker to be granted permission to shoot Varanasi's oldest Ramleela, thanks to his Maharaja Uncle. Manish Tiwary has a special relationship with Varanasi. After all, the director's uncle is the Maharaja of Benares. And thanks to his connections with the royalty, Manish's film has beautifully captured one of the city's oldest Ramleela that has been running across three centuries, thanks to the patronage of the city's royal family.
While Prateik has been making news, the leading lady of the film was kept under wraps. Amyra Dastur, aka Bachchi who raced ahead of nearly 400 girls in audition, makes her Bollywood debut with this action-filled drama, 'Issaq'. Set against the backdrop of Banaras, the story begins by showcasing the violence unleashed by sand mafia controlled by urban elite and equally violent retaliation by Naxalite armies. The sand mafia is run by two influential Banarasi families, Kashyaps and Mishras, who are at brutal feud with each other. Kashyap has an 18-year old, pretty and innocent daughter Bachchi (Amyra Dastur) from his first wife.
A source from the sets says, ''The Ramleela has been running in the city since the past 300 years. Never before has anyone apparently got the permission to shoot Varanasi's biggest Ramleela at Ramnagar and Nati Imli. This movie is directed by Manish Tiwary and star casting in this movie are Evelyn Sharma, Prateik, Rajeshwari Sachdev. 'Issaq' is an upcoming Bollywood Action Dram plus Romance film. Prateik who is known to take his role seriously, is not leaving any stone unturned for playing his character perfectly in his upcoming movie 'Issaq'. The actor, who plays a Banarasi Romeo, underwent diction and physical training to get into the skin of the character.
Prateik went a step ahead and even took training for fire dance and did his action sequences himself in the film. Based in Banaras, the film has a lot of sequences at the Ghats where Parkour; a form of physical activity to reach from one distance to another in the quickest and most efficient way would be useful. Such sequences are never easy to shoot and require skills and director Manish Tiwary wanted Prateik to fit in the character to the tee. Prateik is also giving all what it takes to be a perfect Banarasi boy in love,'' said an official spokesperson.
Directed by Manish Tiwary of DIL DOSTI ETC fame and produced by Shailesh Singh and Dhaval Gada, the modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet - ISSAQ - has released on July 26. As for Banaras then well, any two stories which are shot around the banks of Ganga and in the small lanes cannot be deemed similar."
Talking about his violent tale of love, passion and anger, Manish says, "Ours is an entirely different story. Yes, we have taken up the clich's of Bollywood but then did things in our own way. It is a successful formula of course that we have adapted but there is a huge difference in the way we have narrated ISSAQ"
