Much loved X-factor contestant Jahmene Douglas believes he would be better suited to American Idol than X Factor, - because the UK talent show isn't really about singing at all - despite now being the bookies favourite to win this year's competition.
The shy 21 year old admitted, after his audition, that the producers were more concerned about personality than voice. "The X-Factor isn't about singing so much, I think you have noticed yourself by what people get through to the live shows", he said.
And his mentor Gary Barlow completely concurs with his point of view, commenting that: "Im often jealous when i watch the US shows as our singers never seem to be as good as theirs - until Jahmene came along that is".
However, Jahmene has admitted that his decision to audition for the show was not entirely his own, but rather he was invited by the show's producers to attend one of the auditions after they had listened to his songs on Youtube, and thought he would go down well.
But you have to take the rough with the smooth sometimes - a fact which Jahmene fully acknowledges - in his admittance that had he not been invited to audition by producers for the show - who heard him by chance on Youtube - then he would have never had the courage to put himself forward.
And the public have certainly warmed to the shy singing sensation, with polls reporting that he is the public's favourite contestant - a fact helped by astute and intuitive song choices such as 'Listen' by Beyonce.
A week is a long time in showbiz, with trends coming and going with the changing of the tide, but Jahmene seems to have a star quality about him that keeps growing and increasing his appeal along with his fan base - regardless of whether his heart is really in the competition.
But whatever may happen to Jahmene in the future, it seems clear that he will be one of the lucky few who is remembered beyond when the series has come to an end and people's attention is focused on the next reality show. And whether he does get to compete in American Idol or not, his quality is without question, and his mass appeal is beyond doubt.
