Getting an Entertainment Job in Hollywood

By Philip David

Looking to get a job in Hollywood? Let me give you the breakdown by someone that has worked in the corporate music industry and the tv networks for the last 20 years.

The opportunities are endless with companies like Disney, ABC, Interscope Records, MGM, Universal, E! Entertainment, Sony Music, Warner Bros, Paramount, Geffen Records, Lions Gate, CBS, MTV and the Cartoon Network.

Every single month, 50,000 people move to Los Angeles to hit it big in the entertainment industry. From musicians, to comics, actors and models, the mecca is Hollywood for those wanting to break into the entertainment industry.

Relationships is key in the entertainment industry. At the end of the week, people associate with, 1. who they like. 2. who they know. 3. who they trust.

The first move is to find a job listing.

Websites listing entertainment jobs are a great start. The 4 website picks for locating an entertainment job is.

1.Hollywoodentourage.com: Hollywoodentourage.com is our top pick. It is free to view/post/reply. A great site on networking, entertainment jobs, finding casting opportunities, rooms for rent, modeling, musician/bands networking, comic/comedians gigs. Everything from head-shots, to make-up artists, I love this site.

2) craigslist.org: Craigslist has the longest running history. Good website to locate entertainment jobs, however you have to sort through spamming adult ads and spamming ads.

3) hollywoodentertainmentjobs.com: Hollywoodentertianmentjobs.com is a entertainment jobs only site posting on a daily basis. They post mostly Los Angeles and New York jobs and have a very large selection. Focuses on jobs alone and is subscription based.

4) Backpage.com: Backpage is comparable to craigslist minus the traffic. A fair site but you will have to locate through non-entertainment based.

The second move is to Network.

Networking is key to building friendships in the entertainment market. Hollywood has endless ways to to network in this social landscape. From facebook to friends to clubs, twitter, coffeeshops, open mics, etc. Being on your A-Game is important since you want to be ready for any opportunity that might come.

The third step is to get in the door.

The third move is to get in the door. A good starting point is to get in the door and work for an entertainment company as an assistant or internship. This will be a good opportunity to building relationships. To gain new opportunities, excel as an assistant.
