I did some travelling in Africa a few years ago with an old roommate of mine, and while we were there, we found the fun to be found in African cinema, in particular Ghana movies. Before this trip, I had no idea that there were a lot of movies made in Africa, but I was soon educated with some really great movies that highlight the unique cultures found in Africa. While we did spend a large deal of our time visiting cultural sites, restaurants and other tourist spots, the thing that I loved the most about the trip was watching a new movie every night back in our hotel room.
When we got back home to the United States, we went back to the daily grind, and soon after our trip she got married, and we sort of lost contact over time. So I was quite stunned when she called me one day and informed me that she was coming over and bringing a movie for us to watch. I was delighted by this news, and assumed that she would just be bringing the latest release from Hollywood.
You can imagine my joy when she walked through the door holding up a copy of one of our very favorite movies from our trip. We had a total blast watching this movie again, and I even found that I enjoyed it more watching it the second time around.
After the movie, we found ourselves talking about our trip and I said how much I missed watching the Ghana movies like the one we had just watched. My friend told me that one night she had really been missing those movies, and so she decided to go online and she had found a website where she had found all of those movies from Ghana that we had adored as well as some Nigerian movies.
I could hardly contain my excitement and I immediately grabbed my laptop and looked up the address she told me. And there, I was delighted to see the movies that we had watched on our trip, as well as lots more new releases that I couldn't wait to watch! Together, we spent another hour laughing about specific movies we'd seen and before she went home, I had ordered several movies that I planned to add to my movie collection and watch again and again, knowing that my trip to Africa would live on for a long time.
