Choose A Glamorous Equestrian Wedding For Your Special Day

By Flora Vinson

An equestrian wedding is a very romantic way to begin your special day. A carriage hire service makes an equestrian wedding a straightforward alternative to more usual modes of transport. The bride together with the bridal party can enjoy an exciting journey to the church or venue.

There is often a maximum distance set for the carriage. If the ceremony and reception venues are not in close proximity, other transport will be needed. A time limit of several hours may be set which will include transport and a photo session.

The carriage type differs with each company. Some horse-drawn carriages allow the passengers to be seen more easily and these types are chosen as wedding vehicles. A pair of horses is normal and usually four to six people can be accommodated.

Special 'pumpkin' coaches have been created to ensure the bride is easily visible. Completely glassed, the fairytale effect is enhanced by sumptuous upholstery and lots of gilding. Once bedecked with ribbons and flowers, the effect is magical.

The landau (sometimes termed barouche or Victoria on the websites) is another elegant vehicle, usually fitted with brass lanterns and rich upholstery. It is low-slung and seats four (perhaps six) in the body with richly upholstered benches facing each other. A low door allows access but this may be absent to enable better viewing of the bridal party.

An additional seat at the rear is added on some vehicles to allow for two more passengers. The driver's seat is higher and to the front with the groom sitting next to him. If the weather should turn bad, fold back hoods can be in place in seconds.

The horses used to draw wedding parties have been well trained to adapt to all situations. As well as being totally safe, the horses will be matched in colour and perfectly turned out. The bridles are often fitted with plumes and the harness with tassels. With such luxury at every turn, an equestrian wedding is an event to remember.
