A Review of the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet

By Craig Bates

Those who possessed laptops initially gave the iPad an unenthusiastic reception, not recognizing the capabilities of the brand-new gadget. But then, the actual function of the iPad started to become more obvious. They became hot, gross sales and profits surged and suddenly all of the leading computer and cellular companies wanted to join the action. Tablets like the iPad became the current must-have. Of course, Dell is targeting to get a piece of the action. That is why they created the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this device makes the grade and is worth purchasing is what we are going to try to resolve in this article.

It's a good device for movies with a similar system to watch movies for ipad. Alas, the most self-evident minus for this product is Dell itself. Dell isn't in reality noted for producing good and reliable products. Dell in addition has a questionable track record of providing customer service. Based on customer feedback, it seems that as soon as your warranty runs out, you will be charged for contacting customer support. Buying a product from Dell might have future implications - and not just price - which may well outweigh the immediate savings from it being a comparatively inexpensive purchase.

The tablet has the Android OS (this version is affectionately called Froyo), which means that it should allow you to multitask between a few different programs pretty easily. It's not a necessity to keep certain programs "live" in order to receive messages from the system's notification service, while at the same time listening to MP3s and keeping your GPS data updated. Acquaintances and business contacts will constantly be able to reach you on your Streak 7 tablet because it gives you access to your email accounts, including Gmail, relatively easily.

A one-up feature of the Dell Streak 7 tablet compared with the first iPad is video chat. Video chat is built-in to the Dell Streak 7 tablet by means of a front-facing panel cam and Qik software. The hassle is , though, that you won't be able to communicate with thoseothers who don't use the same Streak 7 device, or something compatible. So there isn't an all-encompassing video chat function available. Another perk is that the Dell Streak 7 table comes built in with Blockbuster's On Demand service. Admittedly, though, Blockbuster's recent troubles certainly managed to make us think twice about recommending the tablet.

Reviews at this point are only a handful, but it does look like most people are unbelieving as to the reasons why this product was developed. It isn't an extensive tablet - it can't communicate between non Streak-compatible devices so its functionality is very limited. Nevertheless, a strong desire for a tablet computer coupled with a limited budget might make this tablet an ideal way to familiarize yourself with the technology. Before you , however, take care and make certain that you know what you're investing in.
